Decades of research shows that air pollution doesn’t only impact our lungs and respiratory health, but also our heart and cardiovascular health. It impacts our brains, both in children and in adults. It can result in people dying early, and in people living for many years with incurable diseases. In South Asia, up to 60% of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is due to air pollution.
With schools remaining closed in Delhi and Lahore to protect children’s health, and local media dubbing this month’s air pollution episode the second highest on record, ICIMOD is sharing expert perspectives on air pollution and its impacts on health and poverty – as well as how to tackle the issue.
This first film zeroes in on the air crisis and human health.
