Описание: A review of the book The Secret Barrister by The Secret Barrister. Over all a good book setting out the flaws in the criminal justice system and how the lack of money over many years has created a system which is springing leaks and injustice all over the place. Much of this chimes with my own experiences back in the 1990s when I was a crime reporter and it's only got worse. Up for criticism are the police, the Crown Prosecution Service, barristers and those in the legal system who operate the 'pile it high, sell it cheap' to get money from the system with little care for those caught up within it ie. victims and defendants. Many examples of how the system is broken and a little on how it can be fixed. This generally comes down to spending lots of money. It shows that in some cases justice is still most likely to be a privilege of the rich and wealthy who can pay for representation. It sets out the injustice cause by the erosion of the legal aid system - which was in some cases fleeced - however which overall was good in its original form and has now been whittled away by current governments. However setting out the problems, being part of the problematic system and then not putting your head above the parapet? How is that going to really solve anything? Is this book a case of 'we need change but I'm not going to be the one who steps forward to try to create it or be part of the solution?'. How very typical of someone working in the legal system to set out a problem and then back away from being part of an open and transparent solution. And this person also criticises the media too - which is a bona fide part of the criminal justice system. Yet at least the media are out there, not hiding.
