We recorded our rendition of this great Chuck Berry song outdoors at The Riverside pub in Ilkley (West Yorkshire, England) a week ago. It was a rather cold and blustery day, so you can hear the sounds of the wind and the river ...and a dog too! Not the most comfortable playing conditions, but I think we coped okay. I have a foot tambourine on my right foot btw. Thank you Kay for the camerawork!

Maybellene was Chuck Berry's first single and his first hit record. Unusually for a black recording artist with a background in rhythm and blues (and jazz), Chuck gave this song a distinctly country feel. It was written and recorded in 1955, and was inspired/adapted from the Western Swing fiddle tune "Ida Red" (recorded in 1938 by Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys). 'Maybellene' tells the story of a hot rod race and a broken romance. Sometimes the title is misspelt 'Maybelline', like the make-up company.
