Most important for an effective Kizami-zuki is a fast starting impulse without showing the intention.
A good exercise is to practice the extension of the back leg - the more you extend, the longer the distance of your punch will be.
The power is generated from back leg and abdomen, shoulder and arm only follow this impulse.
In Traditional Karate you do not jump - loosing the connection to the ground, weakens the techniques and makes you unstable for following moves.
