“Dardanella” was written in 1919 by Fred Fisher, Felix Bernard, and Johnny S. Black, and was recorded by a variety of artists. Ben Selvin and his orchestra recorded it that same year and it topped the list of popular songs for many weeks and became one of the highest selling single records of the ‘20s. Paul Whiteman, Edmond Hall, Sidney Bechet, Willie “The Lion” Smith, and Art Tatum also made recordings of this popular hit.
