This Core Concept video focuses on Friedrich Nietzsche's short essay On Truth and Lying in an Extra-Moral Sense, and focuses on his discussion of the scope and function of the human intellect. By contrast to many other philosophers, Nietzsche maintains that the point and purpose of the intellect is not to apprehend truth, but to further human life. It does this largely by the means of dissimulation (Verstellen).
