Beginner hip strengthening exercises are excellent at bringing awareness to the small stabilizing muscles of the hip. Many patients who are experiencing hip bursitis, IT band syndrome, hamstring tendinitis, etc. have poorly recruited hip muscles. These patients often overuse their quadriceps and hip flexors during their activities which leads to inhibition of the glute muscles. Basically, it becomes really easy to use your quads and you lose the awareness of how to use the glutes during your activity.
These beginner hip exercises isolate those underused muscles around the hip. Many people think these easy hip exercises or too simple or do not serve a purpose but we completely disagree. By learning the feeling of those muscles contracting, you can then progress to more challenging, functional exercises with the same feeling through those hip muscles. This will help reverse the overuse into the quads and other muscle groups, allowing your movements to be more balanced around the hip. These easy hip exercises can help with hip pain and avoid future hip pain as more strength is developed in the muscles.
