Dr. Argoff says people tend to overlook non-pharmacologic treatment options because there may not be equal access to all therapies.

For many patients, when it comes to third party reimbursements and insurance companies, they may not have access. For example, a person without acupuncture coverage may not be able to utilize acupuncture because their finances may not permit it. Similarly, physical therapy may only be provided for six or seven sessions and may not be as useful.

Dr. Argoff adds that the purpose for the treatment of neuropathic pain is not only to reduce pain, but to help a person maintain or improve function.
