In order to save people from dangers of waterlogging, there will be total eviction of all the illegal occupants of canals in the capital within the present government's tenure.
As per the statement of Tazul Islam, LGRD, Local Government and Rural Development minister, the authorities will be taking necessary action and measures complying with the law no matter what is the status of the occupiers. He assured that projects will be started to save the canals.
It is believed by the ministers that if the authorities can liberate the canals from clutches of the powerful illegal occupants, multiple large projects like the Hatirjheel project can be built in the city, while both sides of the canal will have walkways.
The occupiers have made fake documents and papers as they built large establishments over the canals. He stated that by taking over control of these canals from Wasa, both the north and south city corporations have already indulged in the renovation works.
It was added by him that out of 173 acres canal areas in Kalyanpur, 170 in have been encroached. There will be total eviction of all the canal area establishment including the ones in Kalyanpur as well.
