Last night my wife and I escaped into the countryside just outside Chiang Mai and treated ourselves to a wonderful evening at Locanda in Doi Saket — and we were absolutely delighted.

Ambience & Setting
Tucked away in a peaceful corner of Doi Saket the restaurant exudes a warm, relaxed vibe. From the moment we walked in, the space felt intimate yet open — soft lighting, a mix of wood and authentic décor, and a terrace area that invites a slower pace. It’s exactly the kind of place you go when you want more than just a meal — you want a moment.

Locanda’s menu is impressively diverse and tempting: you’ll find Italian-classics and creative twists alike. For starters we shared a mussels dish in white wine and tomato sauce — tender and rich.

My wife chose the vegetarian gnocchi in a four-cheese sauce (vegetarian friendly!) and I picked the duck breast with orange sauce — both cooked to perfection.

The pasta selection makes you pause: from the excellent lasagna they proudly call their “trademark” to tagliatelle salmon cream or black ink seafood spaghetti.

Service & Ownership
What really elevated the evening was the warm welcome and attentive service from the owners and staff. We learned Locanda is run by a Swiss-Italian couple, with Chef Roberto deeply involved in the kitchen.

They took time to greet us, explain the menu, and make suggestions — not just robotic service, but genuine hospitality. We felt valued and well taken care of. One reviewer even noted:
