The African Union (AU) Commission corridor in Addis Ababa is part of a major urban redevelopment initiative launched in 2024 to modernize, expand roads, and enhance public spaces between key city hubs. The renovated route connects Mexico Square through to the AU headquarters, featuring improved pedestrian walkways, green spaces, and 23 new parking areas/terminals to ease congestion.

🌆 The project spans a significant area, including the crucial route from Mexico Square, passing through areas like Sar Bet towards the AU.

🛣 The initiative aims to upgrade infrastructure, widen roads for traffic, create modern pedestrian walkways, and enhance the city's aesthetic appeal.

🚗 23 parking areas and terminals were inaugurated in August 2025 in the Legehar-Mexico-AU area, providing capacity for over 3,700 vehicles.

💒 The project is part of a broader, controversial effort to demolish old structures and revitalize urban areas, aiming to improve economic activity and city mobility.
