Vietnamese water puppetry (Mua Roi Nuoc) originated in the Red River Delta region of Dai Viet (northern Vietnam) sometime around the 11th /12th century AD.
I have followed the puppets since first seeing them perform on Hoan Kiem Lake (Hanoi) in 1989. Over the years the theatre company has moved on from the lake, but never far from it ...it's where Thang Long Water Puppets began!
They are so popular today that there are 6 or 7 shows each day ...always to packed houses. This 13 min video is a sampling of the very latest show (Apr/May 2013) - ENJOY!
