Eastlake Power Plant: A Transformation
The Eastlake Power Plant is a retired coal-fired power station located in Eastlake, Ohio, near the mouth of the Chagrin River, on Lake Erie. It was once owned and operated by FirstEnergy.  

A Shift in Purpose
Interestingly, the plant has undergone a significant transformation. Rather than generating electricity from coal, it's now primarily used as a synchronous condenser. This equipment helps to stabilize the electrical grid by regulating voltage.

Former coal-fired power plant: The plant was initially powered by coal.  
Retirement: Units 4-5 were retired in 2012, and units 1-3 followed in 2015.
