A chilly stroll around the Dartmouth waterfront, with a spectacular view of Halifax. We then head up to Portland St, heading to the the Old Post Office for a holiday light show projected onto the building. From there we follow Portland up to Ochterloney St towards Sullivan's Pond to see some more Christmas lights.
Historic al Stuff:
The Shubenacadie Canal was a natural waterway that connected Halifax Harbour to the Bay of Fundy. Rivers, streams, lakes comprised the natural waterway. An official canal was built in 1826 and completed in 1861. The Canal was used for only a decade before closing. There were 9 locks in the Canal and 3 were restored. Most of the canal was built over by roads and developments and flows in underground culverts.
