Описание: Nawras Alassaf was killed in a terrorist attack at a nightclub in Istanbul in 2017, carried out by an ISIS-affiliated gunman. His family sued Twitter, Google, and Facebook under the Anti-Terrorism Act, which creates a civil cause of action for injuries caused by acts of international terrorism and includes secondary liability for anyone who aids and abets such acts. The family alleged that the platforms aided ISIS by allowing it to use their services for recruitment, fundraising, and spreading propaganda, and that the platforms' algorithms amplified terrorist content. The platforms argued that merely providing widely available services used by billions of people does not constitute aiding and abetting terrorism, even if some users happen to be terrorists. The central legal question was whether social media companies that host third-party content may be held liable for aiding and abetting international terrorism under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
