Pit is a dodging arcade game for the VIC-20. It was released by Audiogenic in 1982, though it seems to have been written by another software house called Kavan. It runs on the unexpanded VIC.
The aim of the game is to collect bags of gold from the right side of the screen and bring them back to the left side. Falling from the sky are drops of acid rain and if these touch you, you lose a life. At the start of the game three blocks give you some shelter from the acid rain, but they are slowly eaten away and eventually they will be gone. Collecting a gold bag will randomly restore some of one of the blocks, but it is a losing battle over time.
A simple game that seems based on Commodore's own very similar game called Money Wars. I also remember an advert for a ZX Spectrum game that was basically identical - Headbangers Heaven by Jeff Minter.
This run was played on the 27th May 2024. The emulator is Pantheon, running on PC. There are no adjustable skill levels and the score reached was 3,500 points.
