17 February 2026 afternoon
The Skipping Day tradition on Shrove Tuesday continues for another year, starting with the ringing of the Pancake Bell, followed by pancake races nearby and skipping along Foreshore road on South Bay. This year I decided to skip the racing, and headed to the Sea Cadets who were fundraising by serving pancakes and other things. After losing on the tombola, it was mostly walking along the seafront and seeing the people enjoy themselves, before going along Vincent Pier to the lighthouse for a look back. Weather was mostly good. While I was there, there was a brief dash of hail but the sun quickly returned like nothing happened!
