The Krokodil 14253 is a historic electric locomotive that was operated by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in the mid-20th century. The locomotive is a member of the "Crocodile" (German: Krokodil) class, which was so named due to the shape of the locomotive's body.
The Krokodil 14253 was built in 1919 by the Swiss locomotive and machine works, SLM Winterthur, and was one of 54 locomotives in the class Ce 6/8 II. The locomotive was primarily used for hauling heavy freight trains over the steep and winding mountainous rail lines of the Swiss Alps.
The Krokodil 14253 was retired from active service in 1983, after nearly 60 years of service. However, it was preserved as a historic landmark and was restored to its original condition by a team of dedicated enthusiast.
