Pete Izzard - In Homage to the Setting Sun (Immersive Acoustic Guitar)

Описание: Live play-through from my living room of the title track of my brand new 3 track EP 'In Homage to the Setting Sun' (out now on Bandcamp).

This piece of music came through me a few years ago, when I was sat in the garden at my parents' place in the Mendip Hills, Somerset late one autumn evening. The blackbirds were just about rounding up their chirping conversation for the day. The reds of the autumnal sky were deepening by the moment, becoming increasingly exquisite. The air was cooling as the last rays of sun peaked over the rolling horizon.

In that moment, as the sun made space for the cloak of night to fall, the realisation that all things must come to a close at some point hit me harder than ever. I felt a brooding sense of lament well up in my body, as the knowingness of my own mortality hit me.

And yet there's so much beauty in the nature of change. The universe and everything in it is in a constant state of transition. For something new and fresh to come into existence, another thing must dissipate back into the Great Ocean of Nothingness. Source calls all matter back unto itself in its allotted time, in order to someday be reborn.

So just as that great glowing ball of radiance in our sky, which generously gives warmth to all creation while quietly making its nightly sojourn across the aeons, will eventually grace us with one final flicker - we must honour the transitory nature of our own lives, as we journey through all its seasons.

In this musical offering, I honour the theme of Divine Closure. With a grateful heart, I pay homage to the Setting Sun.
