Three common ways of dealing with content that you don't want Google to see. But what are the differences here, and when should you use them?
TL;DR:
301 redirects signal that a URL has permanently moved—and it forwards visitors to the new URL. It's great for merging redundant content.
De-indexing pages allows people to see the content, but keeps them from showing up in Google search results.
Using Rel="canonical" gives Google one authoritative URL to pay attention to when you have a lot of duplicate content.
