Resident doctors in England will stage a five-day strike from 17 to 22 December, just before Christmas, over the government’s “failure to make a credible offer on jobs or pay,” the British Medical Association (BMA) confirms.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting condemns the walkout as “cynical,” accusing the union of trying to turn medics into “the Grinch who stole Christmas.” Previous strikes this year have already disrupted services, and experts warn that rising flu cases and staff sickness could put extreme pressure on hospitals.
