Our team purposefully ventures out to gather fresh bamboo leaves and shoots as the rainy season quietly draws to a close — the scent of wet earth lingering in the cool morning breeze as they cut. From the moisture-rich soil, new bamboo leaves unfurl, tender and green — the elephants’ favorite seasonal treat.
When the truck arrives back at the sanctuary with freshly cut bamboo for the herds, the elephants begin to trumpet with delight, jostling for position, eager to be first on the scene.
The truck sets off for another round to gather more bamboo, and the herd runs and plays in excited anticipation, sensing that more of their favorite treat is on the way at Elephant Nature Park.
