EN: Maryam Jafri's "Mouthfeel" (2014) also combines staged and found footage, this time to explore the politics underpinning industrial food production. The staged scenes show a conversation between a fictitious married couple who both work for a multinational food company.
Set in the near future, the melodrama revolves around the wife, a leading food technologist (played by Jafri herself ), who has uncovered a potential health hazard associated with
a particular product, and the response of her husband, a senior brand manager, who is determined to cover it up. The wife’s halfhearted protests and the husband’s calls for pragmatism are interspersed with commercial breaks. The film stages a microcosm of the culture of consumption, where slippery ethics, bottomline profiteering, and lies of convenience drive a machine in which the art world and the artist—as Jafri’s insertion of herself attempts to suggest—are also implicated.

DE: Maryam Jafris "Mouthfeel" (2014) kombiniert inszenierte mit gefundenen Aufnahmen, hier um die
der industriellen Lebensmittelerzeugung zurunde liegende Politik zu erkunden. Die inszenierten Elemente zeigen eine Unterhaltung zwischen einem Ehepaar, das für einen multinationalen Lebensmittelkonzern tätig ist. Das in der nahen Zukunft angesiedelte Melodrama handelt von der Ehefrau, einer führenden Lebensmitteltechnikerin (von Jafri selbst gespielt), die ein mögliches Gesundheitsrisiko durch ein bestimmtes Produkt aufgedeckt hat, und der Reaktion ihres Ehe- manns, eines leitenden Produktmanagers, der fest entschlossen ist, dies zu vertuschen. Die halbherzigen Proteste der Frau und die Forderungen des Mannes nach Pragmatismus werden durch Werbeeinspielungen unterbrochen. Der Film inszeniert einen Mikrokosmos der Geschäftskultur von Konzernen, in denen eine schlüpfrige Ethik, reines Profitdenken und Gefälligkeitslügen eine Maschine am Laufen halten, an der auch – wie es wohl Jafris eigenes Spiel im Film nahelegen will – die Kunstwelt, die Künstlerinnen und Künstler selbst teilnehmen.
