The little black switcher locomotive was back in use pulling an empty grain train to the grain elevator in Winchester, Ohio. I chased the grain train from Mount Orab to Sardinia. When I was in Sardinia I heard on the radio that another eastbound train was coming into Mount Orab so I went bak to see what it was. It turned out to be a locomotive power move. The locomotives went to the grain elevator and picked up loaded cars and the little switcher. The switcher was set off on the wye in Sardinia before the loaded grain train got to me.
Before I got the loaded grain train we see the railroad crossing work in Sardinia. Both of the wye tracks were slated for removal a couple of years ago. However, the new railroad owners decided to put the wye back into service to turn locomotives. All 3 crossings were rebuilt. One crossing had a second track added and had new lights and gates installed to replace flashers. The track is still being worked on and brush is being removed.
Then I chase the loaded grain train westbound all the way to the hill in Williamsburg, Ohio. This train was less than Half as heavy as the rock trains but it was still pretty awesome to watch it go up the hill. The smoky locomotive added a little action. The mosquitoes are gone.
