After watching Next to Normal in the West End, featuring the astonishing Caissie Levy, I couldn't shake this nagging deja vu feeling. So many elements of the show reminded me of Dear Evan Hansen. My love for Pasek and Paul's 2016 Tony award winning Broadway musical was really being questioned now that I realised it might not have been as trailblazing as I first thought. Was the show that took the musical theatre world over by storm perhaps a form of plagiarism? Oooor, and this is definitely a way cooler explanation, was Dear Evan Hansen an alternate reality of Next to Normal? Join me as I try to get to the bottom of this conspiracy theory!
