From Ashes to Art: The Buddha Sculpted from Burnt Roots

In this 31-minute video, I document the entire process of transforming a burnt root of a centuries-old tree into a one-of-a-kind Buddha sculpture, using only handheld tools such as an angle grinder, hand saw, carving knives, and simple shaping tools.

The sculpture portrays Buddha seated in lotus posture, radiating calmness, dignity, and inner strength.
What makes this piece truly unique is its material — ancient tree roots that survived fire, carrying the marks of both time and flames.

🔸 Where time meets fire

Each wood grain holds centuries of growth, while the darkened burn marks left by fire add depth, contrast, and emotional weight.
This is not just wood — it is a symbol of rebirth, resilience, and transformation after destruction.

🔸 Minimalist carving philosophy

Instead of heavy ornamentation, the sculpture follows a minimalist approach, respecting the natural shape of the root:

Body form: Soft, flowing curves suggesting lightness and rising incense smoke

Facial features: Simplified yet expressive, capturing serenity and awareness

Prayer beads (Mala): Carefully carved along the body as a spiritual focal point, bringing balance to the composition

More than a decorative object, this Buddha sculpture carries a healing and grounding energy.
