Описание: Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy purchased 166 acres in Mitchell County, within Audubon’s Roan Mountain Important Bird Area. The Wiles Creek Preserve will be owned by SAHC in the long term as a nature preserve and will be managed for priority bird habitats, water quality, and other natural features. Adjacent to Pisgah National Forest and part of landscape of protected lands with other SAHC preserves, the property features varied topography and habitat, with abundant tributaries and headwater sources of trout streams – which makes it a particularly wonderful oasis in the Roan. It contains spectacular habitat for salamanders, too! Open meadows on the tract provide early successional habitat for neo-tropical migratory birds and a variety of other species.
