Welcome to Session 3 of the Cross-Learning GIS School, organized by the Lebanese Center for Water and Environment (LCWE) in collaboration with Esri Lebanon.
This session introduces participants to the scientific foundations and practical workflows of terrain-based hydrological modeling, deep learning–enhanced land cover integration, and automation using Model Builder and ArcPy. It builds on the previous sessions by moving from satellite imagery interpretation toward real environmental decision-making.
🎓 What You Will Learn in Session 3
In this recorded session, participants explore:
1. The purpose and workflow of hydrological modeling in GIS
2. Key data inputs: DEM, soil, rainfall, and land cover
3. How deep learning improves accuracy in land classification
4. Step-by-step hydrological processing (Fill → Flow Direction → Flow Accumulation)
5. Mapping drainage networks and identifying rainwater harvesting sites
6. Suitability modeling using weighted overlay analysis
7. Workflow automation using Model Builder
8. Converting models to ArcPy scripts for batch processing
9. How automation transforms GIS from manual analysis into scalable, intelligent modeling
📍 Course Context
This cross-learning course is designed to help students, researchers, and professionals strengthen their GIS and remote sensing skills through hands-on, scientific methods for water and environmental management.
Participants who attend all sessions (online or in person) and complete the final assignment will receive a certificate from Esri Lebanon.
