So, an expungement is a statutory mechanism that allows a person to clear their record of a misdemeanor conviction or a felony conviction and it requires a motion to be filed in front of a court which gives the court information as to how long it’s been since the person successfully completed their probation and the fact that they have not been in trouble since their probation and it allows the prosecutor to weigh in as to whether they object to the person clearing their record. Ultimately a hearing can be held on the matter and at our office we routinely file motions for expungements for our clients so that the criminal conviction that has been burdening them preventing them from getting a job or just bothering them being on their record can finally be cleared.
