The composition FRENZY was created for the musicians of the Kreisorchester Borken and their conductor ‪@AndreBaumeister‬. The piece is designed as music for an imaginary ballet with a solo dancer in the spotlight. It consists of three movements that merge into one another. Without pursuing a strict programme, the music aims to describe a person's search for freedom and individuality.

The term FRENZY can be used to describe both, a “bright excitement” and “wild, hectic activity” as well as some sort of “rush” or “ecstasy”. While the piece’s opening movement could best be described by the first two terms, the latter best describe the finale.

I. CAPTURED
The first movement is full of rigour and straightness. Two contrasting themes literally “capture” the protagonist. The music is restless and driven, at times even exaggerated and ironic. It describes a person's desperate search for their place and their destiny.

II. DREAMY
The second movement represents an extreme contrast to the first. The music is now calm and tender. It allows the protagonist to look back on his childhood, which he associates above all with character traits such as an open mind and the ability to marvel.

III. LIBERATED
In the composition’s last movement, our protagonist succeeds in “liberating” himself from his self-imposed expectations. Although the basic conditions of his life (the musical themes) have essentially remained the same, his perspective (his “approach” to music) has changed fundamentally. He has realised that it is worth taking unknown paths, trying new things and opening himself up to life. The dancer falls into a frenzy and dances until he is completely exhausted.

When I find myself “searching”, I recall my role models. I find one of them in Maurice Ravel and his music. That is why I let each of his three ballet scores sound as short quotations in this piece.
