Bunji is situated at the junction of Three Great Mountain Rangesat Gilgit Baltistan, has its historical importance. Its North to West is covered by River Indus whereas East is connected with river Astore. Bunji to Gilgit is about 50 kilometres (31 mi) on KKH. Bunji is known as “Home of NLI”. Bunji’s Regiment motto is “SABIT QADAM”. NLI (Northern Light Infantry) has the primary responsibility of conducting ground operations in the interest of defending the strategically-important territory of Gilgit Baltistan. After outstanding performance in the Kargil conflict of 1999, the entire NLI Regiment was given the status of regular infantry.
