A Thoriated gas mantle is used in conjunction with a Geiger -Mueller tube and counter to estimate the half thickness of aluminium from strips cut from a drinks can.
The nature of this material will have an influence on the result.
Students could use this as the basis of a "catch-up" or remote assignment.
