UN Security Council Divided Over Israel’s Military Escalation in Lebanon | SAMAA TV


France has called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council over what it described as a serious escalation in Lebanon, warning that expanding Israeli military operations could undermine regional stability despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreed on April 17. France’s envoy Jerome Bonnafont criticized the continued strikes, saying they risk worsening the conflict and deepening instability rather than ensuring security.

Meanwhile, Russia and China strongly condemned Israel’s incursion, comparing the situation to Gaza and calling for an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces. The United Kingdom also warned that the escalation is worsening conditions for civilians and urged diplomatic efforts to continue. In contrast, the United States blamed Hezbollah and Iran for the violence, supporting Israel’s position and arguing that peace depends on Hezbollah ceasing its attacks and Lebanon asserting full control over its territory.
