Here the technician is preparing a solid sample for analysis. Use a surface that can be cleaned easily such as a tile or piece of glass or similar. A few milligrams of sample is transferred into the tin capsule using a microspatula - the ones with the curved spoon are particularly convenient and these come in both left and right-handed versions.
The aim in folding the capsule is to form a little package that won’t leak sample and has no little fins of metal sticking out that might catch in the autosampler.
Once prepared the samples can be placed in the numbered cell-well tray until needed.
