Erna Sack is one of the most prominent and important Coloratura Soprano voices in German history. Born in Berlin in 1898, from an early age Sack joined the local choir and took up the contralto line. She trained vocally as a contralto at beginning, then she was trained as a soprano.

Career: Before making her debut as leading roles in 1930, Sack was only allowed to sing supporting roles in performances at the Berlin opera house. She was later discovered with the ability to sing very, very high notes, even reached "C above high C" aka C7. This ability made her name quickly reach all of Germany and even throughout Europe, making her an opera star at that time.
Sack quickly received many offers to perform throughout Europe and record contracts at record labels as Telefunken and Polydor.

Her successful operatic roles include: Gilda, Norina and Zerbinetta (R. Strauss even wrote her a new cadenza with very high notes for the aria "Großmächtige Prinzessin", unfortunately this rewrite cadenza was lost and couldn't be found). In addition, she participated in the lead roles of many German operettas, starring in several German and Austrian musical films in 1936 (Blumen aus Nizza) and 1938 (Nanon).

Vocal: Erna Sack has a Coloratura Soprano voice with an unique timbre. She had a very strong chest voice with resonant low notes (C4, B3) in lower register and mixed notes in middle register. The most famous thing that made her name are clear, powerful high notes in upper register. She even could sing comfortably in "stratospheric" notes above high F. She usually used staccato techniques for her high cadenzas.
