The Amir Temur Mausoleum, known as Gur-e-Amir, is one of Samarkand's most iconic landmarks and the resting place of the great conqueror Amir Temur and his descendants.
Built in the early 15th century, the mausoleum is a masterpiece of Timurid architecture, easily recognized by its stunning azure-blue dome and intricately patterned tilework. Inside, the chamber features a dazzling amount of gold leaf.
In the courtyard, the platform that his chair once sat on, has a hollow carved out to disguise Temur's special built-up shoe.
He suffered a serious leg injury in battle, which left him with a permanent limp and one leg shorter than the other.
