When a hot iron rod is dipped into water, the heat from the rod causes the water to boil and steam is produced. The sudden increase in temperature causes the thermal expansion of the iron rod and the water molecules come into contact with the hot surface, causing the water to evaporate rapidly. This rapid conversion of liquid to gas is called boiling. The steam generated will cool down the iron rod.
