British Nordic Walking instructors are working with the South Yorkshire Nordic Walking Group of Parkinson's UK to bring the health and fitness benefits to their members.
As these instructors and their Nordic Walkers tell us, Nordic Walking is a great activity for people living with Parkinson's because:
The technique improves gait.
The repetitive movements driving neuroplasticity.
Exposure to outdoor environments builds confidence.
There are significant cardiovascular and general fitness benefits.
Stability improves from the use of two poles on the ground.
Coordination is challenged and improved.
Upper and lower limb strength increases, as does bone density.
The social interaction of group activities make it FUN.
