Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, David Koepp were in Berlin to promote the film "Mortdecai" at a press conference on Sunday (18 JAN).
Along with Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Byrne, Michael Culkin and Paul Whitehouse round out the cast of featured players in the upcoming movie.
In the film, the always debonair and utterly charming Charles Mortdecai (played by Depp) brings to mind a mash-up of a variety of characters that includes Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau and Christopher Walken's "The Continental" (on "SNL"), among others.
"I think it's an old tradition of comedies," says Bettany. "You know it's in Shakespeare. It's in Roman comedy. It's the clever servant and foolish master. It is a delicious old place to work and I think Jock as much as he's irritated by his master's cowardliness, his ineptness, he loves him, he's a firm believer in the class system and his place in the universe and his place is occasionally be shot in the face by his boss."
Depp mostly goofed around and when asked about his British accent in the film. "To be Charlie Mortdecai? (Taking on accent) Well, you know he can sort of show up now and again, ho, ho. "Ha ha, isn't that weird? They all live in there. 'Can't be good for you, just saying."
Johnny has three films in the pipeline for 2015, also appearing as the Big Bad Wolf in "Into The Woods" and criminal mastermind Whitey Bulgar in "Black Mass."
This marks the third collaboration between Wimbledon actor Paul and Hollywood heavyweight Depp after 2014's "Transcendence" and 2010's "The Tourist."
Mortdecai, adapted from the first installment of the The Mortdecai Trilogy books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, sees Johnny Depp play a charismatic art dealer on a mission to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a bank account filled with Nazi gold.
