The Dow houses the Department of Biological Sciences, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences. This green facility, built with funds from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, won awards for its design. The building's back atrium is three stories high on the north side of the building, offering stunning views of the Keweenaw Waterway. The Dow is also home to the Biological Sciences Learning Center. The Dow also features the Robbins Atrium named after Dick Robbins (1956) whose company made the tunneling machine that dug the English Channel.
