Fun fact, this was made before I started posting my Omori animatics- Crazy how time has passed!
Backstory :
I found out about POTO from MazM's retelling of it in the form of a mobile game. The art style and illustrations were gorgeous and the story was interesting, though the downside was it functioned on a ticket system and it took me I think ~30 days to finish the whole game (Good thing I was in my mobile games phase at that time, because never again....)
After finishing the game, I went online to read about the original story and found out there was a musical made about the story! Long story short, I fell in love in first hear at this song, and I feverishly went to make some storyboards for this animatic.
I kinda had a bit of a dilemma regarding how I want the tone in this animatic to be. In the musical, the tone in the rooftop scene was a bit more romantic, whereas in MazM's retelling, I remember Christine being so stressed when Raoul threw the ring away. Erik was properly scary, threatening to hurt others if Christine didn't comply with him. I still haven't read the original story yet, but from what I gathered, the ending is kinda the same as it is in the game.
Anyways, so yeah, I just went with my gut and made a sort of amalgamation of the portrayals. At the beginnings of the animatic, I made her unsure and even pained at times. But as Raoul gives his support, Christine breaks down at the end and I drew them in a lovey embrace to match the whimsical feeling of the musical.
Personal ramble :
At first, I was kinda ashamed of this animatic and just posted in on my tumblr and moved on. But as I watch it again, it isn't as bad as I made it out to be, and I actually like some of the shots I did. It's just a shame at how inconsistently I make art/projects (both posted publicly and privately) that I end up not really improving much thanks to my perfectionism.
Even now, I still have a tendency to be scared to actually push my own boundaries since I want every one of my posts to be "perfect" and I end up putting like 3/4 effort into a project and not finishing it because I got demotivated at all the work I've done and seeing it not come together in a way I was satisfied with.
Ah anyways, I thought this was an entertaining enough watch to put up here 👀
Hope anyone reading this enjoys!
