Its amazing that I got this out in 2 months, the Jeff the Killer video took me 3 to make.

At last, the highly anticipated Ben Drowned Retrospective! I decided to work on this video after running a community tab poll to get an idea of what all my viewers wanted to see from me. Both Yugioh and the "surprise me" option with the funni Snoop Dogg image polled incredibly well, so I decided to put my Jolly Roger Bay and Automaton Lung video on pause for a bit to work on this (with the next video coming down the pipeline being another Yugioh video).

Ben Drowned is a story that is very near and dear to me. The first two game franchises I grew up with were Mario and Zelda. Technically Yoshi's Island and Pac-Man World on the Playstation 1 were my very first games, but the point i'm trying to reach is that I have a lot of childhood nostalgia towards Nintendo despite how critical I am of the company today. So when Ben Drowned hit the scene while I was growing up, it was so fucking surreal. I didn't even really know what a "creepypasta" was when I first saw these videos, but much like Return to Return to Oz, Slender-Man or Jeff the Killer, it's stuck with me ever since.

In recent years, Ben Drowned has seen its fair share of critical analysis and the story has been torn apart by the online community just like any other piece of media. But despite the countless hours of rigorous discussion that has been had regarding this story, I've always felt like the debate surrounding Ben Drowned and its quality completely misunderstands why its so beloved to begin with.

So in this video, we're going to spend an insane amount of time combing through Ben Drowned and the legacy surrounding it, and once we're done, we'll come away with what makes this story so revered, as well as what makes something a "classic" to begin with.
