Perfectionism Is Protection: Share Your Creative Work at 85%

Dr. B, “the Naked Creative,” discusses how perfectionism can block creativity and sharing, describing her own hesitation to start a YouTube channel after first planning it in fall 2024 with mentor EG Orren.

She explains that perfectionism often masks fear of being seen, criticism, rejection, and being misinterpreted, and notes that “perfect” is a moving target that can keep creatives stuck for years.

Using examples from writing, quilting (including the idea of the Amish “humble square”), and the saying “you’re not gonna notice it on a galloping horse,” she encourages viewers to reflect on what’s holding them back, journal or record voice memos, and balance the “shoulder critic” and “shoulder cheerleader.”
