How To Measure Nuchal Translucency on Ultrasound:
Timing: The ideal time for measuring NT is between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days of gestation.
The NT scan is usually performed transabdominally, but a transvaginal approach can be used for better visualization in some cases.
Identify the fetus and its position within the uterus.
Locate the fetal head and spine.
Identify the nuchal translucency region, which is the fluid-filled space at the back of the fetal neck.
The fetus should be in a neutral position, with its neck neither flexed nor extended. It's important to have a clear, sagittal view of the fetus.
The measurement should be taken at the maximum thickness of the translucency. Place the calipers on the inner borders of the nuchal translucency.
Avoid including fetal skin in the measurement.
The NT is measured from 11 to 13+6 weeks of gestation and should be done when the fetal crown-rump length (CRL) is between 45mm and 84mm. - Take multiple measurements and use the average for a more accurate result. Record the nuchal translucency measurements in millimeters.
Normal NT measurement: Less than 2 mm
