We complete our exploration of modes with the Locrian mode. Perhaps the least used of all the modes, you can build a Locrian mode with the white notes running between B and B.
One of the reasons that this Locrian mode is less commonly used is that it has an interval of a diminished fifth between its first and fifth scale degrees. This is different to every other major, minor or modal scale that we've looked at.
Composers have struggled to write strong melodies and harmonies using this mode.
