Sometimes you look back at old photos of yourself and realize something strange — the person in those photos doesn’t quite feel like you anymore.

In this video essay I reflect on how identity changes over time. From childhood to adulthood, from serving in the Navy to living abroad, life has a way of slowly reshaping who we are.

This video explores ideas about:

A lot of the ideas in this video come from my memoir The Machinator & James Anybody, where I explore how someone who never quite fit into “normal” culture ends up building their own identity.
