Months of heavy rain fell over just a few hours overnight in central Texas on Thursday, causing flash flooding of the Guadalupe River.
Up to 25 centimetres of rain fell in some areas, causing the Guadalupe River to rise more than six metres (20 feet) in a couple of hours.
In an update on Friday afternoon, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said between six and 10 bodies had been found, with numbers fluctuating by the hour.
Meanwhile, at least 20 children at an all-girls summer camp are reportedly missing following the catastrophic flooding.
