In an exclusive conversation, social activist Munish Kumar Agrawal shares his perspective on the rising human–wildlife conflict in Uttarakhand.
According to him, the entire state is trapped in a recurring three-cycle crisis:
• March: Forest fires, leading to injuries, loss of life, and large-scale environmental damage.
• June–July to September–October: Natural disasters such as floods and landslides, washing away homes, roads, and claiming lives.
• October to February: A sharp rise in attacks by wild animals like bears, leopards, and tigers, resulting in human casualties.
He points out that the number of tigers and leopards has increased significantly, yet there is no clear or accurate estimation available with the forest department. This lack of data-driven wildlife management, he argues, is intensifying conflict between humans and wildlife.
The discussion highlights how environmental mismanagement, climate patterns, and inadequate planning are collectively pushing Uttarakhand into a continuous loop of disaster and conflict.
This video presents a ground-level viewpoint on why human–wildlife conflict is no longer an isolated issue but a structural problem demanding urgent attention.
