Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed October 2014 as Blindness & Visual Impairment Awareness Month in Kentucky. The purpose of the proclamation is to bring statewide attention to Kentuckians who are blind or visually impaired and their families; to empower families and communities to provide supports and resources that will assist members who are blind and visually impaired; and, to advocate on the behalf of these individuals and their families.
As a result of last year's Blindness & Visual Impairment Awareness Month proclamation by Governor Beshear, VIPS along with 22 other agencies joined forces and established the Blind Services Coalition of Kentucky (BSCKY). The purpose of the coalition is to enlighten Kentuckians about supports and services available to empower individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
