Most people think wealth is built by “saving.” But skipping a latte doesn’t build wealth if that same money just gets spent somewhere else.
In this video, I explain the difference between not spending and redirecting — and why investing small amounts consistently can change your long-term trajectory.
And no, Starbucks wasn’t some daily indulgence for me when I was teaching in four different schools across Chapel Hill. I’ll show you the map of the route I drove every week. Starbucks was the quickest bathroom break and a caffeine boost in my car between buildings.
Sometimes short-term needs are real.
This isn’t about guilt.
It isn’t about extreme frugality.
And it’s not about judging a $7 coffee.
It’s about what you do when you have the ability to choose.
Some weeks you’re just solving today.
Other weeks, you’re able to start building for tomorrow — at whatever scale works for you.
And sometimes, that means investing in Starbucks stock (SBUX) instead of buying the latte.
If you’re curious how I make my own lattes at home with my Breville espresso machine, I’m working on a full step-by-step tutorial next.
